So what makes Brainport Eindhoven region the most intelligent community? 
The ICF sees the intensive cooperation in Brainport between government, research and industry as ‘especially intelligent’ and an international model. This ‘Brainport cooperation model’ creates a favourable economic climate with plenty of scope for open innovation across all the economic sectors. This results in solutions for societal problems, powerful, economic growth, high employment and good prospects for the future.

Brainport Eindhoven region is also the ‘most intelligent’ on the basis of the following performance factors, among others:

• Measured by the number of patents in the Netherlands, Brainport accounts for half of all Dutch inventions;
• In view of the high level of expenditure on research and development, Brainport is a leader in top technology and open innovation: nearly a third of all R&D spending in the Netherlands;
• Brainport is able to create new jobs: 20% of the highly educated working population now has a job created in the past three years and around 400,000 professionals are working hard to boost economic growth.
