The Dutch automotive industry has grown considerably in recent years and now encompasses over 40,000 jobs. A large part of the industry is concentrated in Brainport, which is the place of business of world leaders such as DAF trucks, VDL Groep, TomTom, NXP semiconductors, Nedschroef, Nedcar, and Philips and top research and training institutes like the Eindhoven University of Technology, TNO Automotive, PDE Automotive, and TTAI (TÜV Rheinland TNO Automotive International).

The pre-eminent automotive centre in Brainport and in the Netherlands is the High Tech Automotive Campus (HTACampus) in Helmond. The HTACampus brings automotive companies, research institutes and educational institutions together. The objectives are knowledge exchange and innovation, especifically in the field of automotive technology and clean and sustainable mobility solutions. At the end of 2009 was the kick-off of the construction of an Automotive Facilities Brainport-centre of 6.000 m2 with workshops, laboratories, offices and unique test facilities, which are also meant for electric vehicles. The HTACampus has therefore the potential to develop into the most eminent international hotspot for automotive innovation.
